Area Ventriloquist Wins Sunday Night Again
Ventriloquist Edgar Bergen and his dummy Charlie McCarthy once again won Sunday night, when NBC's Chase and Sanborn Hour drew far more listeners than the Mercury Theatre. Historians say some listeners only tuned over to CBS during a slow part of Bergen's show, and missed the opening announcement that it was all a play.
Mr. McCarthy, reached on Mr. Bergen's knee, said he was 'not surprised.' The Martians could not be reached for comment, being, as every regular listener could tell you, entirely made up.
